Annual Pet Exam

Here at Cumberland Veterinary Clinic, we know it can be stressful to bring your pets into the clinic (especially our feline friends!). We recommend always bringing your cats in a carrier, and your dogs on a leash when visiting our clinic. Today, I am going to walk you through what to expect when you bring your pet in for an annual exam and vaccinations.

When you enter the door our veterinary office assistant checks you in. She will then let one of our technicians know you have arrived! If you have brought a dog, our technician will weigh your dog on the scale up front, then take you back to the exam room. If you have brought a cat, they will take you right to our cat exam room, and weigh the cat in there. The technician asks a detailed history of your pet. They will also discuss and determine an appropriate deworming protocol for your pet. Be sure to remember if there are any changes in your pet’s normal behavior, as this can sometimes be significant!

Once the technician has finished their questions, the veterinarian will then come in and examine your pet. They will do a head to tail physical examination, checking your pet over everywhere. Any question/concerns that were brought up in the history will also be addressed at this time. Once the veterinarian has finished examining your pet, and if they determine your pet is healthy, they then administer the vaccines.

Once the appointment is finished, the veterinarian brings you and your pet up to the reception area. Any other items you need, such as food, treats, etc; can be purchased at this time, and any other appointments can be booked as well.  Our office assistant will process through your visit, collect your payment, and you are done!

See, that wasn’t so bad was it? Hope everyone had a great holiday season, and we look forward to seeing you in 2014!
